As another campaign cycle begins we are seeing conservatives jump into primary challenges to try and get rid of RINOS. In Virginia, Dave Brat has announced that he is challenging Majority Leader Eric Cantor in this year's primary. It looks like Brat will have the support of some of the tea party conservatives, but will that be enough to beat out Cantor? In Virginia, you don't register to vote by party. This allows Democrats to vote in Republican primaries. That is why Virginia is seeing the rise of nominating conventions.
In Virginia the GOP is also having a convention to nominate a candidate to run against United States Senator Mark Warner. The candidates who have their name in the race are Shak Hill, Howie Lind and Ed Gillespie.
Another exciting race to watch will be Virginia's 10th Congressional. Congressman Frank Wolf is retiring and the number of area republicans looking to run is starting to grow. Barbara Comstock has already been endorsed by Mitt Romney and Mark Levin. Also planning to declare his candidacy will be Frederick County board chairman Richard Shickle. Others exploring the option to run are Winchester Republican Chairman Beau Correll and Senator Dick Black among many others.
I hope you all are as excited as I am to see how these races progress over the next few months.
